Pennsport is the neighborhood for true blue Philadelphians – whether you’ve lived here all your life, or simply knew Philly was meant to be home the first time you set foot in the city.
The literal home of the Mummers, Philly’s most famous New Year’s attraction, you can find the clubhouses of every Mummers brigade along Second Street in Pennsport (known as “Two Street” to the locals). On New Year’s Day, once the famous parade ends, the Mummers make their way to Two Street, where the real party of the day starts – and continues long into the night. There truly is no better way to get to know your neighbors, as all the clubhouses, bars, and even some of the homes of residents, open their doors to let the celebration inside.
If the best party in town isn’t quite your style, the mostly residential neighborhood of Pennsport is also a quiet, quaint place to live for the other 364 days of the year. It boasts three green spaces and two public waterfront hangouts within its borders: Dickinson Square Park, Jefferson Square Park, Herron Playground, Pier 68, and Washington Avenue Pier. It’s also home to an array of charming coffee houses, restaurants, and shops, as well as one of the city’s best cheese steaks (see Gooey Looie’s info below).
